Civil Works Start on Brisbanes $3 6bn Queens Wharf
The luxury shopping precinct at Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf is in doubt and construction has been halted.
Directly below The Star Brisbane casino — the centrepiece of the project — nearly all of the Queen’s Wharf food and retail space remains a work in progress along the terrace that opened to the public two weeks ago. Destination Brisbane Consortium is excited to be building this transformational city changing project for Brisbane and we thank the community for their patience while this work is undertaken. The development will eventually provide the equivalent of 12 football fields of new public realm to the Brisbane CBD. Queen’s Wharf Towers 5 & 6 mark the final stage of the iconic Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development, one of Australia’s largest and most ambitious mixed-use projects. This ambitious project redefines sustainable luxury, combining bold design with a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. In 2016, it followed this with the allocation of HK$200bn to implement a 10-year hospital development plan that would seek to provide more than 6,000 beds and 94 operating theatres, and increase the capacity of specialist and general outpatient clinics across the city. By taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city, this project will untangle the City Loop.
For buyers looking to secure a foothold in the city’s future, Queen’s Wharf Residences is more than a home, it’s a destination. With Brisbane set to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Queen’s Wharf Residences is perfectly positioned to benefit from the city’s next wave of growth. New residents have described the building as «a game-changer for Brisbane,» citing the attention to detail, stunning interiors, and seamless integration with the wider precinct. Each residence features state-of-the-art kitchens, premium appliances, designer bathrooms, and generous living areas, all crafted to the highest standards. Residents enjoy panoramic views across the Brisbane River, South Bank, and CBD, framed by floor-to-ceiling windows in many apartments. Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is fast becoming the city’s most exciting destination for food, retail, culture, and entertainment.
Cicada Blu, an open-air bar and Euro-inspired eatery called Aloria will both be located on the Sky Deck. Cucina Regina will serve Italian meals in a 160-seat restaurant, serving inside and out. A vacuum waste system will be used across the resort. The tallest building is known as the Queen’s Wharf Residence and is divided into Emerald, Ruby and Diamond tiers with a penthouse apartment. Queen’s Wharf consists of four towers situated atop a seven-storey podium and a five-level basement. The Sky Deck extends 250 metres around the top of two towers. This involved the placement of a 175-tonne piece of steel 100 metres above ground level, between the two curved towers.
While all apartments in Queen’s Wharf Residences were sold off the plan, a limited number of resale opportunities are now available, offering a rare second chance to secure a residence in this landmark development. Located just minutes from key venues, transport hubs, and entertainment zones, the development offers residents and investors front-row access to one of the biggest global events of the decade. The building also offers an exclusive suite of amenities including a residents’ sky deck, fully equipped gymnasium, outdoor pool, and private lounges — creating a lifestyle that’s truly five-star. Designed for modern city living, Queen’s Wharf Residences delivers a sophisticated blend of architectural excellence, smart design, and high-end finishes. The precinct’s new pedestrian links, public spaces, and improved transport connections, including future Cross River Rail access, ensure seamless access across the CBD and beyond. The luxury five star Star Grand hotel occupies towers two and three, which are the two curved towers. The integrated resort that includes three hotels in the complex are the Star Grand hotel, Dorsett hotel and Rosewood hotel.
By October 2021 the lift cores for both the Dorsett hotel and Rosewood hotels had reached level 21. Excavated rock was used to provide fill for the development of a car mall at Brisbane Airport. The height of the Executive Building made it the tallest building demolition to take place in Queensland. An oblong sculpture by artist Lindy Lee is located at the George Street entrance. There will be around 50 new cafés, bars and restaurants in the resort. The megaproject is one of Australia’s biggest mixed-use precincts. Select two infrastructure projects needed most ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics
The mixed-use development will feature 2,000 apartments, 1,100 hotel rooms and a casino. Our team has been involved since the project’s infancy through to the final construction, helping masterplan and design across sustainability, structural and services engineering, to pedestrian flow analysis, and fire protection. More than just a building, it’s a gateway to a world-class lifestyle, one that blends luxury living with direct access to the city’s best experiences. Far East Consortium is proud to announce the completion of Queen’s Wharf Residences, a milestone project within Brisbane’s $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf integrated resort development. The project’s location was criticised for its proximity to the historical heart of the city and government seat of power.
In August 2025, Star Entertainment Group sold their stake in the development. The casino has approval for 2,500 poker machines with about 1,500 machines currently in operation. The casino was first managed by Star Entertainment on behalf of the consortium. The Dorsett and Rosewood hotels are due to open by the end of 2026. Lúc Lắc has created a lush, indoor-outdoor, tropical setting for an Indochine restaurant and bar that can seat 159 people. The Latin American-inspired Azteca can seat 126 people. Black Hide Steak & Seafood will move from the Treasury Brisbane to the new precinct into a 240-seat restaurant.
